Grand Marshal JoHN Schambach

John was born in Schenectady, NY, and also lived in Drexel Hill, PA and Bloomington, IL, where he was active in Boy Scouts and achieved the rank of Eagle Scout. His family moved to Shelbyville, IN during his freshman year, where he met Nancyand graduated from high school. John earned a B.S. in Mechanical Engineering from Rose Polytechnic Institute and was commissioned as a 2nd Lt. in the U.S. Army Reserve, andthen married Nancy the next day. After graduating from the I.U. School of Law at Bloomington in 1971, he joined the Wallace Law Firm in Covington, where he still practices. John served16 years as a Deputy Prosecutor and 22 years as a Welfare Attorney, both for Fountain County.
John serves the First Church of Christ as a Deacon, Secretary, SS Teacher and Praise Team member. He coached Jr. High Football for 5 years, Youth Soccer for 6 years and the C.H.S. Golf Team for 21 years. John was a founding Director of Covington Community Foundation, Inc. and continued to serve for 30 years. He also served on the Public Library Board for several years, the Citizens Scholarship Fund and Covington Business Association for many years up to the present, and is a Past Master of Fountain Lodge No. 60, F.&A.M.
John and Nancy were blessed with two children: Heidi Sue Johnson died in 2017, leaving sons Travis Hay and Evan Johnson and grandson Lincoln Hay; and Phillip M. Shambach, who lives in Lafayette with his wife Amy and daughter Riley and operates a fish farm at Romney raising tilapia for the live market.
